Optional: try a quick sound check

We'll play a series of gentle pulsing tones, one ear at a time. For each tone, you simply turn the volume down until you can only just hear it. This gives a feel for how well you pick up quieter, higher-pitched sounds. These are the ones most people notice fading first.

For best results, use headphones or earphones in a quiet room. This is an informal listening exercise, not audiometry, and results depend on your device and volume.

Set a comfortable volume

Start with your device volume at around 50%. Press play, then adjust until the tone is clear and comfortable, but not loud. Once it sounds right, don't change the volume again.
