Cantara Pro RIC suits people who want personalised everyday listening support without a whole device sitting inside the ear. Some have tried in-ear amplifiers and found them fiddly to handle or uncomfortable to insert. The behind-the-ear body addresses the handling side, though a soft dome does still sit in the ear canal.

• Self-fitting via the ForSound app. A short guided setup adjusts amplification for each ear separately, to suit what you find comfortable rather than applying the same boost to every sound. Left and right are set independently, and you can fine-tune balance and settings manually at any time. Most buyers complete setup in around 15 minutes.
• Calls and music streamed from your phone. Audio from your paired smartphone plays directly through the amplifiers, so you can take a call or listen to music without turning the volume up for everyone else. Streaming uses more battery than amplification alone, and Bluetooth may occasionally need a manual reconnect if the connection drops. Streaming from a TV is not supported.
• Four listening modes for different everyday environments, including General, Indoor and Outdoor. Switch between them with a single button, and a voice prompt confirms your selection.
• 16-channel noise reduction. This helps separate speech from background sound in cafés, restaurants, and group conversation. It is less effective against very loud or continuous noise such as machinery or loud music, which is expected at this price point and worth knowing in advance.
• Up to 15 hours per charge, plus up to 52 hours from the case. The portable charging case tops the amplifiers up when you are away from a mains socket. Streaming and heavy Bluetooth use will reduce the per-charge figure.
• Behind-the-ear design, visible but easier to handle. The main body sits behind the ear and will be noticeable at close range. A thin wire carries sound to a soft dome that sits in the ear canal, so this is not a device you wear with the canal left open, but there is no bulky unit to insert. The controls are easy to reach, which suits buyers who find very small in-ear devices fiddly. If discretion is your priority, an in-ear model may suit you better.

This is normal and settles as your brain adjusts. Start in General mode at a comfortable volume and build up gradually over the first week. If you experience any feedback or whistling, try a different dome size before adjusting the volume, because fit is almost always the cause.
